Skincare for Fathers

After a long day of work and taking care of the kids, you’re bound to look and feel a little tired. Besides that, there may be layers of invisible sweat and grime that could lead to blemishes if not properly taken care of. But a Dad only has so much time in the day, and maybe not enough time to have a full skincare routine. Applying these few quick steps daily can help strengthen the health of a hard-working father’s skin.

Cleaning Away the Day

The first step in a skincare routine for someone running low on time is a facial cleanser. If used both morning and night, a facial cleanser can moisturize skin and ensure the health of natural protective oils. Using a cleanser can help remove dirt, correct acne, and help avoid the skin drying out.

Men also have different skin than women (specifically, a thicker epidermis) so it’s important to seek out products that are for men’s various skin types. Not all cleansers have the same effect on an individual’s skin, so it may be important to test a few different options before using one daily. When using a cleanser, rinse your face with warm water and apply cleanser to the “T-Zone”-forehead, nose, and chin, which is where most unnecessary oils and acne breakouts occur.

Moisturizing Locks In Healthy Skin

Skin loses moisture throughout the day. Using a moisturizer, or a combined moisturizer/sunscreen can replenish anything lost on the skin, while smoothing it against blemishes. Men should use water-based, oil-free moisturizers to not only soften the skin, but to help give your face a younger look and smooth out, or even prevent, wrinkles.

Another important reason to moisturize? Shaving. Shaving your face is a form of exfoliation that requires moisture in order to prevent skin agitation.

Eye Cream Prevents Wrinkles

After having kids, a good night of sleep is a rarity. If you’re noticing dark circles, puffiness, or wrinkles around your eyes, then eye cream is a necessity. In fact, using an eye cream morning and night can prevent wrinkles around the eyes, or stop them from getting more severe as you age. The most important tool for the skin is a moisture replenisher, and eye-cream, like cleanser and moisturizer, is included in that. The skin around the eyes is the first to start deteriorating because it’s thinner than the rest of the face, so any lack of sleep is given away through dark circles or puffiness. To use eye cream, apply a very small amount under the eye and on the eyelid. You can find a dermatologist-recommended eye cream here

Sunscreen to Protect

Sunscreen not only protects from sunburn, but has the same preventative measures against visible aging. The FDA recommends wearing sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or above whenever outdoors to reduce the risk of skin cancer. Sunscreen, when combined with a daily/nightly skincare routine, creates a quick and simple way to get the best skin possible.
