The Best Ways to Keep Your Skin Moisturized During the Winter

Winter weather can wreak serious damage on your skin. Whether you’re dealing with cold, dry outdoor weather or sitting inside with the heat on, it can be hard to keep your skin feeling moisturized and fresh during this time of year.

If you’re dealing with stressed-out skin this season, the key is to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Every little bit of hydration you can trap in your skin will help you have brighter, more radiant skin during the harsh winter season. Be sure to go easy on the facial scrubs (look for ones with glycolic or lactic acid and keep it to a max of three times a week), avoid harsh cleansers whenever possible, and wash and rinse your face with cool or lukewarm water—hot water will just dry it out even more!

Here are some of our favorite products for keeping your skin hydrated all winter long—no matter what the weather throws at you. Be sure to apply moisturizers and other skincare products immediately after cleansing your face for best results.

Cleansers

Cleansing oils can be a great alternative to traditional facial cleansers in the winter: They gently remove makeup and the dirt of the day without stripping skin of essential moisture.

Check out the back of the bottle too. Look for ingredients in your cleansers that are known for soothing in other applications—think oatmeal, turmeric, and chamomile.

Face oil
Many of us grew up with a healthy fear of anything marked “oil” for the face, but it’s actually really good for penetrating into your skin and keeping moisture locked in place. Team it up with a powerful moisturizer for a healthy, hydrated glow.

Facial serums

Serums with hyaluronic acid, like Revision Skincare’s Hydrating Serum, both smooth and moisturize the skin—making them fantastic for winter.

Rich cream moisturizer

A heavier, creamy moisturizer at night (versus a lighter gel) can do wonders overnight for dry, stressed-out skin. Revision Skincare’s Restorative Night Cream is the one we suggest for a luxe dose of moisture courtesy of jojoba seed oil before bed. If your skin is really raw from the weather, feel free to apply this in the morning too (just don’t forget to use your SPF first!).

A lip treatment

Revision Skincare’s YouthFull Lip Replenisher has hyaluronic acid and plenty of hydration to help keep your lips moisturized after a day out in the winter air—plus it’s designed for those who have had or might get lip fillers.

One of our other favorite tips to try in the winter? Grab a humidifier to add some extra moisture back into your living space—there are little ones that can sit on your desk at the office too. It’ll help your skin stay hydrated all day long!
