6 Simple Home Techniques for Skin Pampering
Is your skin in need of some serious pampering? If you’re like us, it’s been a few months since your last spa session! On top of that, you’ve been a little too busy and overwhelmed to prioritize getting eight hours of sleep and drinking 64oz of water a day. We understand exactly how you’re feeling and we‘re here to help! We’ve curated some simple and inexpensive solutions to cure your skin sadness, and all with ingredients you can find laying around in your kitchen!
1. Body Scrub If you haven’t added regular exfoliation to your skin routine, it’s time to start! Those dead cells accumulating on your skin clog your pores and cause dull, dry skin. This handy scrub lets your skin breath. Olive oil Brown sugar (twice the amount of oil) Manuka honey (for some extra healing!) Lemon/orange essential oils (a scent that inspires!) Use in your next shower, rubbing with circular motions. Pay attention to those elbows and knees!
2. Treat Those Feet!! How often do we pay attention to our feet? Maybe when summer sandals come around, but we should give them a little pampering before sandal season too! After all, our feet endure a good bit of daily abuse! Massage them with this little treat for a few minutes and feel the stress melt away: Oatmeal Corn meal Sea salt Olive oil (equal to the above quantities) Few tbsps of aloe vera (for healing and texture) Drops of peppermint oil (a soothing scent)
3.Steaming Out Pores and Using Oils Everyone wants clear, glowing skin. The fastest way to achieve this is to clean your pores, and a steam facial is the perfect thing! First, fill a bowl with boiled water and add some drops of your favorite essential oil. Steam your face for a few minutes by leaning over the bowl with a towel over your head to trap the steam. You can also put the oil on a flannel or sponge in your shower. The steam will open your pores and allow your skin to drink up those healing oils, all while filling your house with the same amazing scents! Find the perfect oil to match your skin type:
- Dry skin: lavender, chamomile (avoid if have ragweed allergies), sandalwood
- Oily skin: clary sage, rosemary, frankincense, geranium, neroli
- Acne: clary sage, frankincense, lemon, rosemary, lemongrass, cinnamon, tea tree
- Wrinkles/scars/age spots: clary sage, frankincense, ylang ylang, tangerine, pomegranate, rose, jojoba, lavender
- Sensitive skin (avoid highly acidic oils, like lemon): lavender, frankincense, sandalwood
4. Softening Rough Hands Make a soothing moisturizer scrub for your hands when they are getting dry and rough.
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp almond/grapeseed oil Rinse hands with warm water, allowing your pores to open up. Rub mixture into skin in circular motions for a few minutes. Rinse off with more warm water and pat dry. Do not use soap, as this will take off all the oil. Finish with your favorite lotion.
5. Milk Bath You know you’ve wanted to try this one before. If you’ve been hesitating, we’ll be the first to tell you... you do NOT have to buy a bathtub’s worth of milk. Add a few cups of whole milk to your bathwater, mix in your favorite relaxing essential oil and honey (optional). Then float some rose petals on top for a luxurious feel, and enjoy! The lactic acid in the milk will soften and soothe your skin.
6. Brighten That Skin Papaya and pineapple are your best friends when it comes to bright skin. Their alpha hydroxy acids love to pamper your tired skin...and they are natural exfoliators. Blend papaya with yogurt and honey and apply as a face mask. Leave on for ten minutes and then rinse off. Pineapple juice can also be poured into ice trays and left in your freezer overnight. Pass the cubes over your face and leave for five minutes.
