Anti-Aging Skincare Tips
Once we move on from the troublesome teen acne, it seems like it’s suddenly time to start thinking about anti-aging products. A lot of what are interpreted as signs of aging are a result of dehydration — if there’s anything you can do for your skin, it’s hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Some of the easiest things you can do for your skin as you get older is to moisturize and pack in plenty of water throughout the day, in addition to good-for-your-skin humectants (formulas that draw water into your skin).
For those of you who are getting serious about preserving that youthful glow, let’s take a look at some of our best anti-aging skincare tips, below.
4 Anti-Aging Skincare Tips
Use SPF every day. UV rays from the sun are one of the biggest aging agents for our skin — and thanks to climate change, these will only get more and more intense. Use SPF each and every day, cloudy and winter or hot and summer, as an essential first line of defense against some of the most preventable signs of aging (and, uh, skin cancer).
Retinoids or retinol. Start with over-the-counter formulas or have a chat with a dermatologist to figure out the right concentration and strategy for your skin. Most skincare professionals recommend beginning with retinol or retinoids in one’s middle to late 20s so that collagen production is amped up before it starts to naturally decrease. Retinol and retinoids help to stimulate collagen production and clear acne while reducing the visible signs of acne (like fine lines), too.
Use a rich face cream at night. Give your skin time to repair overnight and rehydrate itself with a rich face cream while you focus on resting — preferably one that contains some extra moisturizing goodness like hyaluronic acid, which keeps moisture happily in your skin.
Use a gentle cleanser. Going to bed with environmental elements on your face — like pollutants, dirt, and other stuff that sticks to you when you’re out and about — isn’t just gross but can make the collagen in your skin break down. Never forget that cleanser!
